Art and Other Creative Therapies

Experience the profound connection with your inner self and body as we delve into the transformative practices of sensorimotor art therapy, trauma-sensitive yoga and the use of music and sound.

“The spontaneous movement in all of us is toward connection, health, and aliveness. No matter how withdrawn and isolated we have become or how serious the trauma we have experienced, on the deepest level, just as a plant spontaneously moves towards sunlight, there is in each of us and impulse moving toward connection and healing.” ~Aline LaPierre & Lawrence Heller

Creative art practices, developed by experts like Cornelia Elbrecht, Johanne Hamel and Cathy Malchiodi, are highly effective in addressing the impacts of trauma and navigating challenging life experiences that have left their imprint.

We can access inner subjective sensations and the emotions within these sensations through art therapy exercises. Through this work it’s possible to gain access to right brain memory of traumatic experiences implicated in the perpetuation of some traumatic reactions, and facilitate communication of these experiences either verbally or through our body.

Trauma-sensitive yoga practice is designed to help survivors of complex trauma and chronic, treatment-resistant PTSD. It’s an evidence-based intervention that promotes healing through gentle body awareness, mindful movement, and a focus on choice and empowerment.
